The social media space continues to progress with new forms of productivity tools that can help business. Given the state of the economy it would seem that business leaders should be paying attention to the opportunities to improve business productivity at less cost. The popular social network for professionals, Linkedln, has started to offer third party productivity application over its network which just may get the attention of main stream businesses.
Currently most applications offered on Linkedln are productivity based and their introduction is likely to evolve the platform from a mere professional networking and resume sharing platform to a collaborative tool.
Some of the prominent apps that have been included in Linkedln include one from Box.net that allows a user to seamlessly upload and manage files from his Linkedln profile; in addition it allows them to share and edit their documents.
Other notable applications include Huddle.net’s remarkable Workspaces app that facilitates secure document collaboration, Google’s Presentation app that allows PowerPoint files to be directly included into an user’s profile and TripIt’s My Travel which helps in tracking an user travel stats.
Expressing his enthusiasm with the development Linkedln cofounder Reid Hoffman mentioned “This initial roll out features productivity applications that range from gathering information that professionals around you are generating to enhancing your abilities to collaborate and communicate more effectively.”
What Ways Can Individuals and Businesses Use These Tools?
The new tools actually create new means for collaboration, marketing, promotion and re-enginnering business processes such as internal and external collaborative actions. The possibilities are too lengthy to try and describe in a single post only to say “just use your imagination” and visit your Linkedin profile often.
On an individual basis the tools create new channels for promotion, marketing, positioning and communications. I’ve added my blog post to my profile thus enabling me to extend the reach of my message and better brand my profile. I’ve also loaded the powerpoint below which shows up on my home page of all my connection whom have loaded the slideshare app. This again extends my reach, my message and my brand. I’ve also load up some documents to share and they also are embedded into my profile.
If you haven’t tried out some of the new applications on Linkedin I’d urge you to jump in for your benefit and that of your business.
What say you?
