I am with the author (Jay) on this one.
I come form a country where town cryers were the only means (except gossips) of communication for community news not so long ago. It got people discussing, it got them socializing. You could say it was our “social media”. Was that online or off-line? These new terms and technology all do one thing for us. Help us communicate. Hopefully better.
“Social media is both online and off line when you think in terms of building relationships…….” Amen! to that.

If you think you are going to hide behind a computer, then talk to your mouse.
I hope it buys loads and loads of your product/service.

Don.

Jay,

I understand some of your points, but I do not agree. Simply be definition Social Media is an online experience. I agree with your points about the importance of offline, absolutely true. What traditional marketing can learn from Social Media is that they need to learn to listen. Taken directly from Wikipedia (mostly right most of the time) – “Social media supports the human need for social interaction, using Internet- and web-based technologies to transform broadcast media monologues (one to many) into social media dialogues (many to many).”
