It’s The Attitude

by Jay Deragon on 10/18/2011

While social media propagates words, images and video’s it also propagates attitudes.  It is the attitudes that push or pull crowds to or away from something, from people and brands.

An attitude can either enhance or reduce the probability of a relationship. Think about it.  When was the last time you couldn’t wait to exchange dialog with someone whose attitude reflected  anti-social behavioral attributes?  Most likely you couldn’t wait to get away from someone with those traits.

Attitudes are reflected in words, actions, images and deeds (media). Attitudes surround us and they either push us away or pull us together.  Studies have proven that negative attitudes are bad for your physical, spiritual and mental health. Attitudes can also impact the likelihood of getting the job you seek, the spouse you desire and the reputation you project.

With so much time being spent on-line interacting with all these “friends” and their media one might wonder which attitudes create the lowest valued engagements.

So you might ask what are the top ten anti-social attitudes? Well here they are:

  1. Arrogance
  2. Negativity
  3. Self righteousness
  4. Scarcity
  5. Insincerity
  6. Self interest
  7. Reactive
  8. Unteachable
  9. Ignorance
  10. Critical
Whether an individual, brand, organization of affinity groups everything you put out on the web reflects an attitude. Whether it is an ad, a tweet, a post, a video or an update everything reflects your attitude. You can’t blame a crowds reaction when it is your attitude that caused the reaction.
Think about what you say and how you say it. It could mean the difference between creating a following or being left alone in the dessert.  The choice is clearly ours to make and others to follow.
Which attitudes do you follow?
