Ever notice that women are uniquely gifted with a “sense” beyond man’s comprehension? If you haven’t notice this distinction then you are simply not paying attention to the things that matter most–a women’s unique ability to see, hear and do beyond man’s capabilities.
As a young man I was always amazed at my mother’s “sense”. She knew if I had done something questionable before I did. She knew when I needed encouragement, when I needed discipline, when I needed love and she always seemed to know these things at the right time and the right place.
My Mom came from the generation that witnessed the growth of the industrial era. Her father fought in World War I and her husband, my dad, fought in World War II. She was raised in a small town in Maine where everyone knew each other. She was born and raised in a 100 year old farmhouse with four sisters and a brother. Her mother died young and her father never remarried.
My Mom graduated valedictorian of her High School class. She was unable to go onto college and like most women at that time married young and embraced motherhood with a purpose. She raised five children and left each of us with a strong sense of responsibility, discipline and purpose. She taught us all the importance of values as our guidepost upon which to reflect as life brought challenges and successes.
Our Dad was a strong disciplinarian and self-appointed leader of the pact. We all loved and respected him but we also knew, and so did he, that Mom was the real leader of the household and of our lives.
A Gift That Keeps On Giving
God’s gift to mankind is women. Who has the real gifts to understand issues of the heart? Women. Who has the capacity to serve beyond physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual comprehension? Women. Who has had to burden the pains of longsuffering of service to their children, spouses and the community? Women. Who has been the CEO of the world’s largest and oldest institution, the family? Women. Who deserves more credit, more support, more pay and recognition that anyone? Women.
Men have dominated leadership roles, have been paid more and have taken more of the glory than women. In the spirit of giving during this holiday season and every season I think it is time we give women the honor they deserve. Women are the greatest gift any man could receive for without them no man would have been born, nurtured or enabled to do anything.
Pass this along to the woman you want to honor and let them know now is their time and forever.
