Everyday people go into the “job cage” and jump on the same wheel they ran on the day before. Management measures the output of all the wheels collectively then attempts to optimize each wheel to improve the whole. What management doesn’t realize is that by tinkering with each wheel they are sub-optimizing the whole.
The “job cage” is the environment we are bound to work in. The wheel in the task we are told to do the way management wants it done whether it is the right thing to do or the right way to do, we are held accountable for doing it. It is as if human capital is viewed as a spoke in the wheel of production with little to contribute beyond the ability to comply with a job description and management instructions. Everyone knows it to be true and everybody wishes somebody would change these truths.
What Was True Is Not the Truth
Mass production begot mass conformity. Mass conformity begot institutional thinking. Institutional thinking begot rules to protect the institutional rules and the rulers of the institutions. The rules of success where defined by the institutions and designed to distribute wealth. The distribution of wealth had its own set of rules that fed the many while pampering the few with luxury.
We accepted these rules a true because that is the way it is and everyone knew it to be true. We were told it to be true by our parents, our teachers, our employers and our government. Our mental models were shaped around these rules and our instructions for life were based on these rules. Then we began to learn a different truth.

You are hiding your best work, your best insight, and your best self from us every day. We know how much you care, and it’s a shame that the system works overtime to push you away from the people and the projects you care about. The world does not owe you a living, but just when you needed it, a door was opened for you to make a difference. It’s too bad that so much time has been wasted, but it would be unforgivable to wait any longer. You have the ability to contribute so much. We need you, now.
The truth is what was true about markets, business, value creation, management, organizations and most importantly what was meaningful to the human network is no longer considered the truth.
There are a new set of truths awakening in the hearts and minds of the human network. The new truths are actually old truths that were replaced by deceptions of the industrial era used to create economic gains for the few.
In time these truths will be set free to create gains, economic and other, for the many.
