The Relationship Economy will require transformation of knowledge, management, media, technology and individual participation. The prevailing cultures that are driving all business must undergo transformation. The “system” of relationship networks can not understand itself. The transformation to the Relationship Economy requires a view from outside.
The aim of this article is to provide an outside view-a lens-that we call a system of profound knowledge. It provides a map of theory by which to understand the dynamics of a networked world.
Profound Knowledge of the Networked World is the never ending process of learning the dynamics of a networked world and applying the learning to new theories of knowledge.
Profound Knowledge is gained from awareness, observation and interactions created by new mediums produced by a networked world. The first step is transformation of the individual.
This transformation is already underway. It comes from understanding and adoption of a new “system”. The individual, transformed, gains perceived new meaning to their life, to events, to new abilities, to interactions between people. Once the individual understands the new “system” of profound knowledge, they will apply its principles in every kind of relationship with other people. They will have a basis for judgment of their own decisions and for transformation of the organizations, institutions, governments and communities that they belong to.
The individual is being transformed and creating a new body of knowledge for the masses to learn from and apply including:
- Setting an example of participation in the networked world
- Learns the dynamics and assumed rules and roles of a networked world
- Continually teaches others how to succeed in the networked world
- Helps people, organizations, institutions and governments to pull away from their current practice and beliefs and move into the new philosophy without a feeling of guilt about the past
The layout of profound knowledge appears here in four parts, all related to each other:
- Appreciation for a system of relationship networks
- Knowledge about variation of networks and their subsequent value
- Theory of knowledge: What is being discovered and applied as the basis for future advancement of the networked world
- Psychology of how people relate and accomplish individual objectives in a network
An individual need not be proficient in any part nor in all four parts in order to understand it and to apply it. Much of the basis of profound knowledge draws on the tenants of human behavior and lessons learned from life experiences. While most individuals would not label life as a “system” of profound knowledge one would intuitively identify with the elements which provide the basis of definition.
Leadership from the bottom insures massive adoption. We will be providing more on these matters in the near future. What say you?

You have totally appropriated W. Edwards Deming’s ‘System of Profound Knowledge.’ It would be nice if you would acknowledge that.

Barabasi is a great statistical mechanic. His papers show you the wood hidden in the trees. He also has the courage to say that scientists apply the word “random” to any processes they don’t understand, but that randomness decreases as knowledge of a subject increases. Duh, but it’s nice to hear it said.
But he really needs to team with a verbal vulgarizer if he wants to connect with the public.
